Although Word and Life's roots date back to 1940, (then known as AFM Parkrand) a new phase was started when Pastor Ronnie and Henriëtte Barnard accepted the call in 1990 to serve as presiding pastor.  In his heart he had a clear vision which God gave him for this congregation  namely "this church will be like a city built on a hill that cannot be hidden" (Matt 5:14).

Plans for the erection of the new auditorium was drawn up in 1997 with a clear instruction from God that it should be built debt free.  Word and Life lives by the principal of sowing and reaping. Prior to us starting with the building project of our own church we sowed ten steel constructions to less fortunate congregations.

The land on which the building was to be erected, was acquired miracuously and with great exitement the bull dosers were put to work, leveling the ground and off loading  the steel constructions.  

We moved into the auditorium during the year 2000.  As the congregation grew so did the needs.  There was no end to building projects.

On 2 May, we can look back in awe and gratitute.  No words can express our thankfulness towards God - all glory to Him, knowing also that this congregation is functioning debt free.

Our biggest priority is to serve and support others.  Only eternity will tell what impact Word and Life and the members had on the community, in South Arica and across the borders.

Past. Ronnie’s vision which he received 20 years ago, is being fulfilled on a daily basis.
